CHIEF OF STAFF

Tara Smith

As Chief of Staff for District 1, I am responsible for managing the day-to-day activities, as well as assisting with the implementation of district strategies and initiatives. I also serve as Commissioner Patrick’s legislative and policy advisor. 
 
My professional background is in economic development. Prior to joining Commissioner Patrick, I worked in the economic development department for the City of Norcross. I was the lead project manager for the City’s largest annexation project and led the Freeport Tax Exemption referendum.
 
Throughout my career, I have been involved in assisting organizations in navigating some of the country’s most difficult and complex challenges. 
 
 

CONSTITUENT AFFAIRS MANAGER

Sonya Issac

I am responsible for planning and executing constituent engagement for the purpose of providing an exemplary and seamless constituent-service experience. This role includes attending constituent related affairs, and meetings for the benefit and quality of life of all constituents in district one. 
 
I launched my public sector career sixteen and a half years ago with Gwinnett County and the City of Norcross as the Special Project Manager. I am a certified local government Finance Officer and I am currently pursuing a certification in project management as a Project Management Professional (PMI).

COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER

Aiun Nettles

As the Communication Manager, it is my goal to ensure that all District 1 residents are informed about Commissioner Patrick’s legislative, community, and constituents initiatives, Dekalb County Department services, and creating partnerships with our community organizations.
