Infrastructure

When I became Presiding Officer in 2022, I made it a priority for DeKalb County BOC to pursue federal appropriations (formally known as “earmarks”) after a 10-year ban on the practice. In 2022, we submitted a package of projects totaling $15 million. After months of advocating in DC and pitching our projects, in 2023, it was announced that DeKalb BOC received $7 million in federal appropriations secured by members of our US Congressional Delegation.

This year, I am proud to announce that Congressman Hank Johnson was able to secure$1.8 million for District 1. DeKalb Peachtree Airport (PDK) received $1,000,000 for the demolition and construction of its administration building, which was built back in the 1930s. We were also able to secure $800,000 for segments of the planning and engineering of Peachtree Creek Greenway.

I want to thank Congressman Johnson for his efforts and investing in District 1. This funding will help to move District 1 towards the future. An upgraded PDK administration building would allow the 2nd busiest airport in Georgia to have more capacity to operate in a more modern working environment. And the Peachtree Creek Greenway can move to the next phase of becoming a reality.

I look forward to working with the Congressman and the rest of our US Congressional Delegation in the coming years to modernize and move District 1 into a more viable place to live, work, and play.
