Event kicks off the launch of a new chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. in District 1

Decatur, GA — Commissioner Robert Patrick has partnered with a newly formed chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha (AKA) Sorority, Inc. for a free paper shredding event. His office and members of the Alpha Beta Lambda Omega Chapter invite residents of District 1 to Pleasantdale Park for some last-minute spring cleaning by disposing unwanted loose paper, files and documents. Also, to show some support for local food pantries, participants are encouraged to bring at least two non-perishable cans of food.

The Alpha Beta Lambda Omega chapter was established to expand the Alpha Kappa Alpha, Inc. footprint in the north DeKalb areas of Brookhaven, Chamblee, Doraville Dunwoody, and unincorporated DeKalb communities. The shredding event will kick off the chapter’s first major partnership under their ‘Enhance Our Environment’ program’, one of four of the organization’s international program initiatives.

Commissioner Patrick is honored to have the new chapter in District 1. “With the rich history of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Inc. and their dedication to community service, their presence will be a great asset to our district and DeKalb County,” he said.

The shredding event will take place on Saturday, May 20th at Pleasantdale Park, located at 3686 Pleasantdale Rd, from 8:00am-12:00pm, or until the truck has reached capacity. The event is free of charge to all DeKalb residents.
